The
advance of broadband services has led Telefônica to invest in the
expansion of its billing and authentication system. The carrier, in
collaboration with the integrator Medidata, implemented the Speedy
Portal reorganization project, ensuring capacity to handle more than
2.5 million users, the total number of customers presently.
According
Maurício Hara, a planning manager with Telefônica, the portal is
responsible for authenticating and enabling access for all Speedy
users, besides processing the billing and determining the bandwidth
contracted. "The user always connects at full speed and the system
provisions the bandwidth", explains the executive.
According to
Hara, the portal is resized yearly, as the demand for services grows.
This project includes upgrade of Sun servers, change of routers,
firewalls, load balancers and reshaping of authentication and
management services.
Another important part of the project was
the increase of data repository and storage capacity by 60%, with
possibility of future staging. Hara explains that the login data and
user navigation need to remain stored for legal reasons.
The
project was designed to allow greater scalability with the use of
virtualization. As a highly critical environment, resizing demanded the
creation of a backup area on disk, using snapshot technology, and on
database-dedicated tape systems. http://computerworld.uol.com.br/gestao/999/12/31/telefonica-redimensiona-sistema-de-autenticacao-e-billing-do-speedy/
